You’re probably getting tired of me saying it but I really love these Sunday Morning sessions. Here’s a sneak-peek from this past weekend’s session. I can’t wait to share the rest of this shoot which included an early start at the farmer’s market, morning tea featuring heath ceramics, and some casual portraits around this renovated firehouse in the Mission.
Stay tuned for more shoots and finally some details about the 1st Annual Modern Kids Thank You Picnic!

Living in the Bay Area it’s hard to avoid Burning Man. If you don’t know what Burning Man is
read about it here.
Unfortunately for me I first heard about Burning Man circa 1997 while living in Minneapolis. I was at the peak of my art-snobbery stage and was really turned off by the initial description (hippies making art in the desert…on drugs). It was really not my idea of an experience I wanted to seek out. I’ve been to a few Phish concerts, afterall. Sadly, whoever that person was really ruined the idea of Burning Man for me until I met my husband nearly ten years later. Frankly, I was kind of confused why a super fun, geeky, non-hippie, and uber-smart dude like my husband would be into Burning Man. Then I moved to the Bay Area and it all made sense.
Flash-forward to today: Burning Man is in full-swing right now in the Nevada desert. There are plenty of hippies but also software developers, venture capitalist, normal folks, CEOs of companies like Google, and amazingly, kids and lots of them. Did you know there is a
Kids Camp at Burning Man?
This last fact has really peaked my interest over the past few years and makes me actually want to brave the wind-storms, absurd desert heat, port-a-potties, and the hippies. If they can swing it, I should be able to, right? That said, maybe you’ll see Modern Kids there next year. Actually, I mean just me-myself-and-I there (no logos or advertising allowed). I’d love to document the kids of Burning Man. I briefly checked out flickr to see if anyone has already done this (I’m sure there are tons) and I found this lovely photo by
Iñaki Vinaixa. Thanks for letting me share your image, Inaki!
For the photogs out there, here’s a question: what gear would you bring? Joe (the husband) says I’d be an idiot if I brought my fancy cameras. Apparently the playa dust ruins EVERYTHING. What would you bring, an old film-based camera, polaroid, holga, or a 4×5? Iñaki, is this shot on film? It’s so lovely.

p.s. I have nothing against hippies! I come from a family of hippies. Just thought I’d poke a little fun.

For those of you that know me, you know I'm a big fan of handmade items, especially knitted and quilted items. You could only imagine my amazement and awe when I saw this adorable Etsy store pop up during one of my jaunts through that awesomely addicting website.
Check out these one of a kind crocheted stuffed toys. So cute! Be sure to check out

She has several elephants on her site. I just thought this one was so cute. Look at that awesome trunk!

As summer draws to an end and all the kids are heading back to school I noticed that fall is starting to appear in places already. I wanted to snap a few polaroids to remind me of the lazy days of summer for yet another year.

I got this email a few weeks ago and it stopped me in my tracks. It’s one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever gotten and it made my year. It’s funny how only a few words can do that. Thanks so much to the lovely lady who said it. I appreciate it more than you know!
I can’t believe how beautiful the photos are. Really. So many of them just take my breath away. And this sounds kind of dorky, but I feel like they are really how I want to remember and see this time in our lives, and they capture something about how I want to see us as a family, me as a mom, etc. I sincerely hope that we can meet up again on either coast!

But in this case they both are superhero’s. If you follow my blog at all – you may recall a post several months back where I did newborn images of a very special clients family. The little guy wasnt growing well, and had to have some surgery. And more surgery….
Well, the superhero he is – is growing BIG!!! and healthier than ever!! So, even though his older brother was wearing the super hero masks that day and sporting the cape.. They are both heroes (along with their mommies) in MY book!!

Remember little Esme? I photographed her a few days after she was born (look up to my blog header, she’s in black and white and is adorable). She’s already six months old! I can hardly believe it. She’s as beautiful as ever.
